Organizing a Garage Sale
5 Ways to Make Quick Money
Organizing a garage sale is one of many ways to make quick money to help with your personal finances and budgeting. Conducting a local garage sale is a perfect way to get rid of all the things you once used and no longer need.
Hosting one gives you the chance to clear the clutter and make a little money while you're at it. Here are some ideas to help you be successful with yours:
Way #1: In some parts of the country you can have a one any time of the year because the weather will cooperate. Normally, they are in the late spring and summer months. Plan yours for the beginning or ending of the season so there is less competition.
Way #2: You've got to use signs to bring in traffic. Start with the main road and put a sign, then place the rest where you need to in order to direct them to your house. You know how frustrating it is when you are out finding one yourself to have just one or two signs up and then never being able to find the place. Make sure there are enough directions for people to easily find you.
Way #3: Don't put your signs out until you have everything ready to go. You don't want to get hit by the yard salers until you've got everything out. Otherwise they'll be hunting around and trying to buy stuff that's not for sale.
Way #4: Garage sales are not a one-man or woman operation. You need at least 2 adults. One can run it when the other goes out to put up the signs and picks up the donuts and coffee. Two is also necessary when one has to go to the bathroom (after all that coffee), or when there is a mob of customers, and to help watch for theft.
Way #5: When organizing a garage sale, be prepared for the "sticker switcher". My wife just participated in a multi-family weekend sale. She told me of many (not just once, mind you) times when people would remove the price tag and then innocently ask, "How much is this?" It worked twice as items were sold for less than the original sticker price because of the hurriedness of the time. They finally caught on, but a little too late.
Quite a few things to think about, I know. Most of us have grown up with garage sales, having had one ourselves at one time or another. I trust that when organizing a garage sale the next time, you will take these tips into consideration. Doing so will help you make even more money to help with your personal finances and making a budget.
